Long Rumored 'King Kong Vs. Tarzan' Finally Being Released As A Novel

In 1935, King Kong’s creator, Merian C. Cooper, was seeking a vehicle by which to keep his greatest creation alive.

Kong was dead. Skull Island had sunk at the end of Son of Kong. But Cooper was undeterred. Harkening back to a pre-King Kong project when he tried and failed to obtain film rights to Edgar Rice Burroughs’ Tarzan of the Apes, the celebrated filmmaker conceived a technicolor prequel he called Tarzan Vs. King Kong. A prequel to King Kong, it brought the Ape Man to Skull Island to confront the mighty Kong.

Alas for Cooper and the rest of us, he failed to secure the rights to both properties, and so the project perished.

But it was not forgotten. Periodically, attempts to place those two classic jungle characters in the same story were floated, but nothing ever worked out. Until now.

Altus Press, Edgar Rice Burroughs Inc. and DeVito ArtWorks, LLC, are proud to announce their version of this long-deferred dream project.

'King Kong Vs. Tarzan' is scheduled for a Summer, 2016 release, timed to coincide with the promising and much-anticipated new Warner Bros. Legend of Tarzan film, and will be issued in trade paperback, ebook and hardcover editions.

ILM Has Released Never Before Seen Concept Art From The Jurassic Park Franchise

Industrial Light & Magic have released never before seen concept art from both Jurassic World and Jurassic Park! The artwork was discovered by graphic designer and previous competition winner Tuna Kaan Koc. In a series of tweets, he shared images that he had pulled from the site.

Under the 'Legacy' section of ILM's website, some original concept art and storyboards from Jurassic Park were found, including one from The Lost World which shows a T-Rex being lifted in a cage by InGen workers. It's an amazing piece and shows a sequence we did not see in the film.

To see more concept art and some original storyboards for 'Jurassic Park,' click the link in the headline.

The episode in question covers 'Cloverfield' as well as both viral marketing campaigns for the original movie and the new '10 Cloverfield Lane,' so I know how a lot of you would love to be listening to that to get hyped for the new film. Again, I apologize and will keep you updated as soon as the episode goes live. Thank you for your patience.

'Rampage' Writer Speaks Out About Why This Adaptation Will Be Different

Last summer, New Line Cinema announced that superstar Dwayne Johnson will headline “Rampage,” based on the 1980s arcade game about three giant monsters under attack by the military as they stomp their way across North America. It’s perhaps not the most obvious choice for an adaptation, but director Brad Peyton and screenwriters Ryan Condal and Carlton Cuse believe they can make a better video game movie.

Although plot details are, of course, being kept under wraps, Condal spoke with SPINOFF about his love for 'Rampage,' the challenges of bringing an action game to the big screen, and working with the Rock.

"The issue that 'Rampage' faces is it’s an action game; it’s a world. It’s based on an idea and doesn’t have a central, three-dimensional character at the center of it. In that case, the trick is to find the story within that world that’s compelling, and love the game – that source material it’s based on – and be willing to dismiss the things that don’t make a great movie and embrace the things that do help make a great movie out of it. But, don’t be slavish to the underlying IP. In any adaptation, even in the great comic-book adaptations like 'Spider-Man,' 'Batman' and 'Iron Man,' there were concessions that had to be made and things that had to be dismissed out of the canon in order to properly service the movies. Video games are the same way. All of those begin with what anybody should begin with when they are writing or creating a movie, which is make a good movie."

Click HERE to read the full interview.

Not sure how anything he says is that far off from every other writer on a video game movie adaptation, but if it means more giant monsters and the possibility of a good movie, I'm in. What do you think? Let us know in the comments.

Meet The New Team, 'Power Rangers' First Look

The Power Rangers are mightily morphin’ into something a bit more modern. Shooting has just commenced on Lionsgate’s new feature film based on the 1990s franchise, and today we have the first look at the new team — along with loads of new details about the casting, the costumes, and the badass villain, Rita Repulsa (played by Elizabeth Banks). See it all below.

Entertainment Weekly served up the Power Rangers first look.

From left to right, that’s R.J. Cyler as Billy (a.k.a. the Blue Ranger), Naomi Scott as Kimberly (the Pink Ranger), Ludi Lin as Zack (the Black Ranger), Becky G as Trini (the Yellow Ranger), and Dacre Montgomery as Jason (the Red Ranger). You may have noticed that the new Power Rangers have ditched the awkward race-based color-coding of the original team. No longer does the Asian guy have to be the Yellow Ranger, or the black guy the Black Ranger. As director Dean Israelite explained to EW, that was a deliberate choice.

Looks like they're at least going for actors that could somewhat believably be high-schoolers. Are you at all interested in this? Let us know in the comments.

First Look At 'Kong: Skull Island' Native Inhabitant's Village Set

Filming for "Kong: Skull Island" has moved to the very popular tourist area of Trang An, Ninh Binh. The location is a highly traveled boat route which is now closed due to the Kong crew. But before the shutdown someone was able to get some video of the set.

What you're seeing is the village of the inhabitants of Skull Island. This is pretty different from what we've seen in Kong's past. It's a more traditional fishing village setting with about 20-30 teepee style huts, dugout canoes, baskets, mud brick kitchens and a really cool Mad Max looking boat (barely visible in the far right corner of the village). 300 local extras have been hired to fill the village and were chosen for their convincing looks of fear. Why? Because they're all gonna die!!! Well, maybe not all but the village is attacked by monsters and most of the people will have to run for their lives. Filming in this location will be for approximately 2 weeks.

Looks like they're definitely going in a new direction. Hopefully we'll see more from the production in the coming month as they film. What do you think? Let us know in the comments.
