Today we have an episode that we've been building up to since the very beginning. We finally talk in-depth about the original Godzilla film that spawned one of the longest running film series of al time. Not content to treat it like any other film, we decided to make this a VERSUS episode and pit the American and Japanese versions against each other in a fight to the death.
Episode 11: The Best And Worst Godzilla Designs
This is an argument that fans have been engaged in since the beginning. Which Godzilla design reigns supreme? Which one looks like a grey speckled diaper with fangs? These are the important questions that Kyle and Coleman delve into on today's episode. Before that though, they delve into all the recent Shin Godzilla news and wonder when and if we'll see a new trailer (I know, there already is one, but we recorded this last week)
Episode 10: King Kong (1976)
I have been waiting so long to do this episode, and while many of you will scoff at this being our podcast's first introduction to Kong, I think it's a great way to kick things off. Jeff Bridges chasing after Jessica Lange in the jungles of Hawaii holds a special place in my heart, and I hope we can sway those of you who have never really given it a second, or even first, look.
Episode 09: Daikaiju Gamera
This is an important episode for our little podcast, as we're now starting to delve into the iconic monsters that rule over the fandom. Gamera is one of the "big three" in my eyes, and having not seen many of his films, it was incredibly exciting to dive into the first one early in the podcast's lifecycle. 'Daikaiju Gamera' may not be the best film in the series, but it's incredibly interesting to see the aspects of his future status come alive for the first time in this film. Plus, TOSHIO!!!
Episode 08: The Road To Godzilla Resurgence
I think it's safe to say (without checking) that we've talked about the new Toho Pictures Godzilla film, briefly, on every single episode of this podcast so far. That's because we know how big of an event the release of 'Godzilla Resurgence' will be for us and fans worldwide. We decided to take a break from the huge line up of films and discussions we have planned for this podcast and take a step back in time to see what led up to this complete re-imagining of one of the oldest film franchises in existence along with the two directors who will take the series forward.
Episode 07: Jeremy Robinson's Project Nemesis
This episode marks a turning point for the podcast, as we delve into our first book discussion. Of course, it just happens to be a book that is widely regarded as one of the best new kaiju properties and is extremely well written by the best-selling author Jeremy Robinson. Dubbed a "kaiju thriller," the book and its author do not disappoint on either of those fronts.

Today, we are canceling the apocalypse! (The apocalypse being: going another day without a new episode of 'Tokyo Lives: A Giant Monsters Podcast')
On the latest episode, we start out with a bang and go in-depth discussing the latest 'Kong: Skull Island' footage and the first actual trailer for 'Godzilla: Resurgence.' This was a huge week for the two classic monsters and we waist no time arguing and butting heads while breaking down what we thought about their latest iterations and what the future might hold.

Stomping onto the scene, today's episode is a blast from the past where hosts Coleman and Kyle discuss the acclaimed Toho Pictures classic 'The War of the Gargantuas.' Before getting to the main topic, they announce the winner of last week's "VERSUS" episode, talk about Marvel's latest foray into giant monsters, share memories of the old Universal Studios ride 'Kongfrontation,' and talk about the new 'Skull Island: Reign of Kong' ride.

Coming to you raw and unedited, hosts Coleman and Kyle have braved the '10 Cloverfield Lane' premiere to get you a review as quickly as possible. They start out spoiler free and let you know their honest thoughts and opinions on whether or not you should spend your hard earned cash on J.J. Abrams new suspense-thriller. After a hefty warning, they jump straight off the deep end and really let loose in the spoilers section. Words and possibly blood are shed as they try to communicate some confused and surprising feelings.
Episode 03: Cloverfields
On the eve of a new film, hosts Coleman and Kyle dive into the cult phenomenon 'Cloverfield' and its impact on the film industry and giant monster movies in general. We break down some rumors and now confirmed spoilers for '10 Cloverfield Lane,' and can't help but be a little angry at the bait and switch producer J.J. Abrams and company Bad Robot have pulled on us. Either way, we're excited to see the new film and to have this series continue, even if we're hesitant on the direction it might be going. At least it's given everyone an excuse to go back and check out the excellent first film!

On this episode, Coleman and Kyle pick apart the latest news relating to everyone's favorite subject matter: devastatingly gigantic creatures. They run through the new Legendary Picture's King Kong film, throw around some rumors surrounding 'Shin Godzilla,' and talk about the newly announced director of 'Pacific Rim 2.'
The main topic of the night has them scrutinizing and reviewing the highly reviled, American made Godzilla film directed by Roland Emmerich and starring Matthew Broderick. Has it aged well? You'll find out and more listening to this tense breakdown of the film over a decade after its release.
